BIOGRAPHY
Jason Sho Green graduated from the University of Washington in 2002 with a degree in electrical engineering (with a focus in robotics and embedded systems) and a minor in math. Much of his time at U of W was spent doodling in notebooks during boring lectures. He decided 2 years ago that drawing was what he loved to do, and since then he has focused on his freelance graphic design and illustration career.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I'm largely influenced by childhood. I love nonsensical kid logic. When
I was a kid, I spent my summers visiting my oba-chan in Japan - watching
anime, playing with toys in the department stores, and hunting giant horny
beetles. There's something about being a curious kid in a land where you
don't understand the language - you take in all the visuals and are forced
to create your own story. This is essentially the same process I follow
now - unable (or not wanting) to understand what's going on around me
- and narrating it as I see fit.
All my art education has come from sketching in the margins of my notes
during infinitely boring lectures. It was all about entertaining myself
- I didn't realize that it would appeal to anybody outside of my parents
until 2 years ago. If you like my drawings, you have the electrical
engineering professors at the University of Washington to thank for
boring the hell out of me in class.
I try not to play to obvious emotions. I'd rather to make you think
for a second than make you blush, fuzzy, shiver, and smile.
I love honest, accessible, thoughtful work - and I hope you see some
of that here.
