BIOGRAPHY
Jenny Hart
is the founder of Texas-based Sublime Stitching, the little company
that rocks the needleworking industry. Jenny is an internationally
published artist/illustrator, an award-winning author of two titles
for Chronicle Books and a designer for Plaid / Bucilla.
Due to an overabundance of bunnies and dull, outdated instructions,
Jenny independently founded Sublime Stitching in 2001, taking
embroidery where it simply had not gone before: with stylish and
updated patterns and fun-to-read starter kits to inspire a new
generation of crafters. The response was worldwide celebration
and hordes of loyal crafters, thankful for something to stitch
other than geese in bonnets.
Jenny has become a noted pioneer of the contemporary DIY movement
as highlighted in zines and publications that include JANE, Real
Simple, Teen Vogue, BUST, ReadyMade, Family Circle, Entrepreneur
and The Wall Street Journal. Her innovations with embroidery design
have been hugely influential in the cr aft and fashion industry
and she is a regularly featured designer in the trade publication
CNA.
Jenny's interest in embroidery began with her own works in embroidery
(at jennyhart.net). With a background in fine art, Jenny began
experimenting in embroidery, never before having held a needle
and thread. Unknown to her, she was about to unleash a new obsession.
Her lavishly embroidered portraits have been exhibited and published
throughout Europe, South America, Mexico and Japan. Her works
are included in the collections of the Roger Miller Museum, actress
Carrie Fisher, comedian Tracey Ullman and Elizabeth Taylor. Jenny's
embroidery and wardrobe design has appeared in a Flaming Lips
video, and you may have seen her on TV as judge for Craft Corner
Deathmatch on E! and the Style Network.
Jenny lives and works in Austin where she is a founding member
of the Austin Craft Mafia. When in New York, she teaches sold-out
classes at Make Workshop in SoHo. She runs Sublime Stitching full
blast and tries to embroider every day. Do you?
