ARTIST STATEMENT
In these recent drawings I’ve
been combining
biological/geographical elements with futuristic/ sci-fi elements
of some kind. Also the
occasional cartoon/comic/anime/pop culture
element….and sometimes a representation of a
human psychological moment/ emotion…
The coexistence of these, for me,
translate into thoughts about where
humanity comes form…[its relationship to its
history and to the planet]; where it is at present [specifically the
process of once –
distant communities of the world
becoming more culturally integrated with one another];
and also its relationship to its future and the rest of the
universe [and beyond].
At the same time the drawings are simply about my personal
relationships and feelings. Love, doubt, solitude,
exploration, longing, reflection, hope.
All of this is within
Image-making is a way of sorting
information,
and personal response to it [thought and feeling].
Before I choose pictures from which to work,
-arrange and re-render them-
I do not articulate a concise statement.
Before creation, there is too much from which to formulate clear thoughts.
Being selective of images, I’m simultaneously selecting my most
prominent/and or
significant thoughts,
extracting them,
and writing them into sentences [visual paves the way for verbal].
When I’ve completed compositions I can read myself through them.
I can say,
this is what I experienced,
this is what I learned;
This is what I have to share with you.
