ARTIST
STATEMENT
New York City based artist Stella Im Hultberg presents her latest
series of paintings & drawings. Ghost-like female figures
stand alone, in pairs, & sometimes with animals in dreamy
landscapes. Each piece is rendered in oil & ink on tea-stained
paper as an attempt to capture a scene from a dream. Though primarily
figurative, the works are not meant to be portraits of real people,
but are used as symbols to represent a certain emotion or idea.
The artist states, “I think of them as a slice of a moment,
revealing very private emotions and dreams.” The imagery
is meant to evoke the human experience - our insecurities, our
fears, our darkest secrets – and how our feelings manifest
themselves to shape our lives. “No matter how many different
themes there are for me to explore, in the end I’m always
attracted to people, their stories, and the dualities of their
persona and this world,” states Im Hultberg.
