  • Call for Artists: Art Star Pop Up Market at Spruce Street Harbor Park

We are so excited to be partnering again with our Waterfront Winterfest collaborators to bring you an Art Star Pop Up Market at the new Spruce Street Harbor Park this Summer!
The Spruce Street Harbor Park will be THE destination for summer fun and relaxation in Philadelphia.  It is situated at the Penn’s Landing Marina, right at Spruce Street and Columbus Blvd.

From Delaware River Waterfront Corporation’s Press Release: This two-month summer program throughout July and August will bring a boardwalk, urban beach, fountains, and misting areas to the Delaware River Waterfront. The centerpiece of the project is a series of floating barges complete with lily pad water gardens, a pop-up restaurant and bar, and nets that will suspend visitors over the water. The full design of the project including the landscaping and programming will help evoke the maritime history of the area, and will celebrate the River’s industrial past and the bright future ahead for Philadelphia’s waterfront.  Learn more about this exciting new park here.

The Art Star Pop Up Market will be a small, open air market featuring the work of 10-20 of the finest makers from Philadelphia and the surrounding region.  The Pop Up Market will be held on Saturdays from June 28th – August 30th along a tree lined walkway within the Spruce Street Harbor Park.  Come shop our curated group of vendors between 11am and 3pm every sunny Saturday (we won’t set up if it rains!) Vendors will be selling a variety of handmade goods with most items priced affordably and under $50.

    CALL FOR VENDORS!!
We are currently looking for artists/crafters who create affordable goods (items priced under $50) to participate in the the following Saturdays of the Art Star Pop Up Market – August 2nd, August 9th, August 16th, August 23rd and August 30th.  Because this is a completely new venture for us, we are offering vendor spaces for FREE!  Vendors will be set up along a walkway that is 12ft wide and long enough to fit up to 20 vendors (2,000 ft).  Because this is kind of a tight space, each vendor will receive 10ft of space wide and then 5 ft of space deep.  You may bring a 10×10 tent to protect you and your goods, but you must keep your work/displays within a 10′ x 5′ footprint, in order to give customers space to walk through.  All tents must be properly weighted, though tents are not required.  If you don’t feel like bringing a tent, bring a large beach umbrella instead – feel free to be creative! There is a parking lot on site for vendors to park for $25 a day, or you can try to find street parking.

If you are crafter/artist that is interested in vending at any (or all) of these days, simply email us at info@artstarphilly.com with a link to your website OR attach photos of the items you plan to sell AND the date(s) you are available to do.  Please put POP UP APPLICATION as the subject of your email. Deadline to apply is July 24th and we will let you know if you were chosen to participate by the the end of the day on July 25th.  Please email with questions – no phone calls please.

  • Big News! Art Star Craft Bazaar coming to LBI, NJ this July!

    W
e have been hard at work beginning to prep for our 11th (yowsers!) Art Star Craft Bazaar (ascb) at Penn’s Landing Great Plaza on Mother’s Day Weekend AND we have big news to share!  We have also decided to host a 2nd Art Star Craft Bazaar at the Long Beach Island Art Foundation (LBIF) in Loveladies, NJ in July as well!

The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences. The Art Star Craft Bazaar will take up the gallery spaces of the LBIF plus the entire grounds outside

Last year the kind folks over at the LBIF approached us about bringing our ascb to them to help freshen things up and we were excited for a couple of reasons.  One, I grew up there.  I graduated from Southern Regional High School in gulp, 1996 and spent the summers there on the beach and at my high school job at the 7-11 right when you enter the island.  I haven’t lived there since i graduated high school but my family and many good friends still do.  Two, the foundation is a great organization that is dedicated to promoting the arts and sciences on LBI through their art studios, gallery, craft shop, workshops, classes and more!  The grounds are pretty big and can accommodate 100+ art/craft vendors plus food, music and make + takes.  I had helped install a show there back when I worked at The Clay Studio, so I am already very familiar with this wonderful organization that is literally a few steps away from the beach!

the Gallery space within the LBIF that we will fill with our vendors

They have hosted a craft show at the foundation in July for many years now and it is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year.  They wanted to try something new and we were more than happy to step in and try it out!  Because this is partially a fundraiser for the LBIF, we will be asking a small admission charge (to this show only, not our Philly show) of $5 and a portion of that will directly benefit them and help them to continue to promote and nurture good art/craft on LBI!

the crowd at our Philly Art Star Craft Bazaar. The LBIF’s annual craft show already attracts 2-3k visitors and we hope to at least double that number this year!

We are really excited about this newly added venue and hope for it to continue to grow like our Philly bazaar has over these past 11 years (and counting!).  We will be partnering with select businesses from the area (like our girls from School of Vintage) to get as many people as possible to the show and also hope to seek out some amazing local food vendors, musicians, etc that will compliment the vibe of our show.  If you think you fit the bill, please let us know!

Applications are open to crafters/artists/makers from all over the country.  Apply today!

  • Art Star Craft Bazaar 2013

Save the Date! The 2013 Spring Art Star Craft Bazaar will be held on May 11th + 12th at The Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing.  And guess what?  This is our 10th Art Star Craft Bazaar!  We’ve decided to revisit one of our favorite designs by Julie West for this year’s logo.  This is the first image she designed for us – she just reworked it a bit this year. She also gave us a design with gold highlights, which we hope to use for the print materials.

If you are an artist and would like to participate, we are now accepting applications!  Deadline is March 5th, Midnight.  Spread the word to fellow artists!

I finally uploaded Carrie Bender Hill’s beautiful photos from last year’s bazaar.  We were blessed with incredible weather ALL WEEKEND for like, the first time in I don’t know how long.  Here are some of my favorite photos from the weekend.  More HERE on our Flickr page.

    ENJOY!
(P.S. if you are an artist that participated and there is a photo of your work, feel free to include your name and website in the comments section on FLICKR)
